Download the data

These JSON files are copies of the bundled vocabulary resources. They are data downloads, not necessarily files that can be imported directly through the app’s CSV / TSV / TXT importer.

Dictionary source: CC-CEDICT

Chinese–English dictionary data is by the CC-CEDICT contributors, continuing CEDICT, started by Paul Denisowski in 1997. The source is available through MDBG / CC-CEDICT under CC BY-SA 4.0.

Structured source: complete-hsk-vocabulary

The structured source is complete-hsk-vocabulary by Yanis Zafirópulos, pinned to revision 7ac65bf1a6387d35f1ade478906172a19311c7f9. Its MIT notice is preserved in the downloadable third-party notices. That MIT notice does not replace the dictionary data’s CC BY-SA license.

What was adapted

Changes include selection of simplified forms and reading-associated English senses, deduplication, shorter definitions, selected polyphone overrides, cumulative legacy HSK grouping, and everyday-topic selection. First Words and everyday wordbooks also include original learning text and selected additional words and phrases. Source details and actual counts are recorded in the manifest.

A word can appear in more than one book. Counts across books should not be added together as a total of unique vocabulary. The HSK books are legacy six-level reference lists, not the current exam syllabus or official exam-preparation material. No endorsement by dictionary contributors or an HSK examination authority is implied.

Pinyin shows lexical tones; natural speech may use tone sandhi. Audio is supplied by Apple’s system voices and is not part of these downloadable datasets. The data is learning reference material, not a guarantee that every reading, definition, or example is error-free.

Reuse and attribution

When reusing the adapted data, follow the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, including attribution, identification of changes, and ShareAlike requirements. Keep the upstream notices applicable to the material you use. The license text is authoritative.

A useful attribution identifies the CC-CEDICT contributors, the structured source by Yanis Zafirópulos, and the Mandarin Loop adaptation, with links to their sources and the license. Do not imply endorsement. This page describes the recorded sources and licenses; it does not claim ownership of all upstream content.
